IN SEPTEMBER 1973 THE ROYAL MASONIC BENEVOLENT INSTITUTION OPENED A NEW  CARE HOME AT PENYLAN AVENUE, PORTHCAWL CALLED THE ALBERT EDWARD PRINCE OF WALES COURT.

TO THE [HOME] WAS ATTACHED A BOWLING GREEN AND CLUBHOUSE WHICH WAS INTENDED FOR USE NOT ONLY BY THE RESIDENTS BUT ALSO BY THOSE WISHING TO PLAY BOWLS.

IN THE OFFICIAL PROGRAMME ,  AT THE OPENING OF THE [HOME] IT WAS STATED THAT [COMPANIONSHIP MATTERS A GREAT DEAL TO US ALL AND A BOWLS CLUB WILL BE FORMED AND THE GREEN TO BE IN USE BY THE 1974 SEASON]

ALL MASONIC LODGES IN PORTHCAWL AND THE SURROUNDING AREAS WERE INFORMED OF THE PROPOSAL TO FORM A CLUB. A MEETING WAS HELD AT THE CLUBHOUSE ON THE 23rd APRIL 1974 WHEN THE PRINCE OF WALES COURT BOWLING CLUB WAS FORMED AND THE FIRST OFFICERS APPOINTED.

MEMBERSHIP WAS TO BE RESTRICTED TO MASONIC BRETHREN, LATER TO BE OPENED TO ASSOCIATE MEMBERS, AND THE GREEN WAS TO BE THE HOME OF THE CARDIFF MASONIC BOWLING CLUB.

A CONSTITUTION WAS DRAWN UP AND A CLUB BADGE DESIGNED

ORIGINALLY THE CLUB PLAYED FRIENDLIES ONLY, BUT IN THE MID 80’S WERE INVITED TO JOIN THE WELSH PRIVATE GREENS AND READILY ACCEPTED.  THE CLUB HAS SINCE JOINED THE PORT TALBOT TRIPLES AND THE NEATH LEAGUE.

SINCE 1990 THE CLUB HAS HAD A VERY ACTIVE AND SUCCESSFUL LADIES SECTION.
